first snow

October 24th was the first sign of snow for us here at the cabin.
We were headed up the mountain on Sunday afternoon when we saw snow flurries.
We could not believe we were seeing snow.
It didn't stop either, it snowed for two days straight.
We ended up with a foot of snow.
The kids were SO EXCITED!! They could hardly wait to get outside and start throwing snowballs.
Krew was pretty excited about eating the snow.
After their snow fight Krew was cold and ready to go inside and sit by the heater, (his favorite place.)
When Dad got home he started snow blowing all of the snow and shoveling the deck, etc.
Kali was his little helper.
Before Aaron left for school one morning he took a picture of the lake.
beautiful.

After the two days of snow, the sun came out and melted most of it.
Now two weeks later we the snow is falling again.

Happy Halloween

A football player and his coach, a pumpkin princess and the great big pumpkin headed out on Halloween eve to trunk-or-treat.
After we filled their pumpkins yet again, we headed home for some dinner and then went out again with Grandmpa to trick-or-treat to the neighbors.
Krew got freaked out pretty easy with all the scary decorations.
At the trunk-or-treat some one had their candy in a bowl with the hand that comes
down on your hand when you reach in it.
KREW FREAKED OUT! and had to tell everyone about it.
At one of the neighbors homes they had a spook alley and
both Kali and Krew screamed loud.
After that house, Krew was nervous to go to any other house, he would
look around nervously and kept saying," this is scary."
2 1/2 pumpkins full later these kids have received WAY TO MUCH candy.
When we got home the kids wanted to try on Grandma's costume.
These are decorations in front of Grandma's house.
Krew walked out and looked at them.
He said the skeleton is mad and the witch is sad.
I asked him, "why is the witch sad"?
He told me the witch was sad, because the skeleton was mad at her:)

Earlier that day the kids helped Grandma make cupcakes and cookies.

After that we carved our pumpkins.
Krew was excited about using the cutting tools...

but as soon as we opened it up he was done.
This is GROSS!

So I cleaned it out for him.
I was pretty proud of myself, I got this puppy clean.
Insides in one bowl, seeds in the pan to bake.
Kali did a great job cleaning our her pumpkin and making dots to start the carving process.

Grandma carving her bat.
Grandma's bat, Krew's smiley face, and Kali's ghost.
Krew didn't want something scary.
On Sunday, Kali and I made these little pumpkin treats for our classes,
Kali's Sunbeam class and my Laurel girls.
For our Sunday dinner Grandma and I made this spooky dinner.
On the menu:
Witches blood, witches hair, giant spider eggs, witches fingers, eyeball salad, mummies,
goblins mouth, bat poop, and blood and guts.

Trick-or-Treat

Kali the sweet pumpkin
and Krew the tough football player
headed to main street in Walla Walla to get our trick-or-treat on with the Barberich family.
Krew and Kali had the time of their life running from store to store getting a pumpkin
full of candy. McKay and Mallory were their little partners in crime:)

Krew was so fun to watch. He caught on REALLY fast,
he could not believe all he had to do was say, "trick-or-treat,"
to the ladies with candy and they would give him some!
Thanks Barberich's for inviting us to trick-or-treat with you, it was so much fun!

the perfect pumpkin

We were in search of the perfect pumpkin.

To start this adventure off we jumped on the hay ride and headed over to the pumpkin patch.
The search began
Kali wanted the BIGGEST ONE,
but quickly found out that the biggest ones are REALLY HEAVY.

Krew found his perfect pumpkin.
and Kali found hers:)

Krew wasn't so excited about the idea of taking pictures,
he refused to look up at me.
All of our pumpkins. Sure, Krew will smile for Grandma:)
Kali found a 15 pounder!
Kali with Grandma in the pumpkin patch.
Another great day at the Country Mercantile!!!

Kali recites 6 of the Articles of Faith

Kali is working on the 7th article of faith
and wanted to recite it for the video
but doesn't have it fully memorized
so I told her to wait to record it,
that is why she was disappointed at the end.

smurfs

We found a smurf home in our neighbors yard and could not believe how big it was.
the mushrooms in our yard look like this.
I wonder what kind of fertilizer our neighbors use?
We thought we had found a huge mushroom until
we went on one of our nature walks and found three of these monster boletus mushrooms.
pretty cool, huh.
They are edible.
I was going to cook it up,
but after looking online and
trying to find the best way to cook it,
I read something about how they grow well even in areas with
high metal content in the soil, that scared me;)
I decided maybe after I am not preggo, we will try one.
