Have you noticed all the pink this month. In the grocery stores, searching yahoo, on facebook, etc. That is because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I have already purchased, pink cups, a fuze drink and a bag of Reese's peanut butter cups. I am looking at purchasing, an element shirt, running shoes, and a pink ribbon charm. They are all supporters of, "Susan G. Komen for the Cure." What exactly is this you ask?
Fulfilling the PromiseNancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, we have invested more than $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.With so many important organizations to support why am I such a big supporter of breast cancer?
Well, out of my dad's five sisters, three of them have had breast cancer. For some reason I have always felt like I will have it. I haven't had a vision or blessing or anything to confirm this feeling, it is just like an acceptance of what is to come. Weird, huh?
I am sad that the Hawaii 5K for the cure is on October 19th, which is a Sunday, however, I did find some other race for the cure in Honolulu on October 23rd and 24th. So I am excited to call and see if I can participate in that.
Next time you are in the grocery store this month and you see an item with the pink ribbon, buy it, just to support a good cause:) Every little bit helps!
I should have paid attention when Aaron told me he wasn't very excited about the idea of turning 30 earlier this year. He said it didn't really hit him until he actually had to tell someone his age. I didn't really understand how much it bothered him until he came home with his favorite vehicle. A lifted Ford Bronco. This is the third one he has owned in his life time, and each time he sold one he hated it and felt like it was a mistake. He drove one when we met and we had it for about three years until after we had Kali and we "both" decided to get rid of it, because it was hard for me to get Kali in and out of the Bronco and it had several miles on it, but ever since we sold it he kept saying how he wished we still had it. Well, now he has is love back:) I would be lying if I said I haven't enjoyed it myself. It is a fun vehicle. We have taken it on a hot date to the point, where we just backed it up to the edge and enjoyed the ocean view while barbecuing some steaks. It was so peaceful and relaxing. When he first got it he wanted to take me for a ride so we left the kids with the neighbors and jumped in and headed to the point. Aaron is really into being spontaneous right now so we jumped off the point in our clothes and then headed home:) It was a really fun little date. I want to thank my neighbors (Crosby's, Howard's and Wynes) for being so awesome and taking our kids so that Aaron and I can get some time away together, how does a girl get so lucky?
I now understand why it would be SO nice to have two separate rooms for your children. BED TIME! Krew is ready for bed around 6:30 pm or 7:00 pm, while Kali goes to bed anywhere between 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm. She should be in bed at 8:00 pm every night but she makes her self stay awake and fights me every night about going to bed. These kids are just so opposite. Kali wants to fall asleep with the door open, sometimes a movie on. Krew needs it completely quiet, and dark, door closed. If I try to put Kali to bed at 8:00 pm and she does not want to go to bed she just knows to make noise and then that wakes up Krew and the night becomes too long for my taste:) The other night I put them both down at 8:00 pm, closed the door and put a movie on for Kali... these pictures were taken at 10:30 pm that same night:)
I had to come up with some creative ways to get Kali to sit in one place so I could try and enjoy the afternoon session. She got to sprinkle colored sand, "fairy dust" over these My Little Pony pictures. You pull off the top layer and underneath it is sticky. I also let her decorate a pumpkin:) I printed off a conference packet that my friend Brooke sent me and tried to get her to play bingo. When she heard someone say a word that was on the paper like, prophet, scriptures, prayer, etc. she got to put down an almond. That didn't last too long for her:( I liked it though! It had a fun matching game that she enjoyed. Matched the 12 apostles to a picture with their name. She did finally sit down and listen to Prophet Monson's final talk and then when the Tabernacle choir sang she got out her song book and sang with them. Aaron and I really enjoyed that:)
